Four more recs. I feel bad that it's so few, but there just aren't a lot of Yuletide fandoms that appeal to me this year.
Aubrey - Maturin series - Patrick O'Brian
On Solitude (15123 words) by Toft
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Aubrey-Maturin Series - Patrick O'Brian
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin
Characters: Jack Aubrey, Stephen Maturin, Preserved Killick, Barrett Bonden
Summary: Jack and Stephen accidentally become telepathically bonded, but Stephen still has to complete his mission in Minorca.
I almost didn't read this, because telepathy and soul-bonding are among my least favorite tropes, but it's handled extremely well here, perfectly realistic and in-character. The author also does a beautiful job with O'Brian's unique style.
Black Books
A Touch of Frost (1307 words) by Nomad
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Black Books
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Bernard Black, Manny Bianco, Fran Katzenjammer
Summary: In which Black Books gets festive, everyone gets drunk, and Manny gets Snowman's Nipple.
Hilarious, with pitch-perfect dialogue.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
A Very Happy Hitchhiker’s Christmas (4248 words) by abstractconcept
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Arthur Dent/Ford Prefect
Characters: Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox
Summary: In which Arthur Dent gets just what he wanted for Christmas, except the tea, and Ford Prefect gets the thing he's been pining for.
“You’re always going on about your spleen, like it’s so great.” Ford poked Arthur in the chest with a certain drunken belligerence.
This is very funny and surprisingly, but not overly, sweet.
Lewis
The Handwriting of St. Thomas Aquinas as read in Cod. Vat. lat. 9850 by the Aged Scholar (3752 words) by inabathrobe
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Lewis (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James Hathaway/Robert Lewis
Characters: James Hathaway, Robert Lewis, Laura Hobson, Joanna Pinnock
Summary: Hathaway finds voluntary redundancy to be rather trying, really.
A fine Hathaway character study that's also a fine 'ship fic. One of the things I like best about it is that it doesn't end the first time they have sex, but carries on to see how Robbie and James settle into a relationship together. The story could've used a Britpick, but is good enough in all other respects (especially the author's use of well-chosen details) that I'm unusually willing to forgive the odd "gotten."
